Men's & Women's Hoops to Host Washington in "Tear It Up!" Event Friday Night at Coles

01/24/08

The New York University men's basketball team will host University Athletic Association (UAA) rival Washington University on Friday, Jan. 25, at 8 p.m. at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center in Manhattan. Preceding the men's game will be the Violets' women's game at 6 p.m.

The doubleheader will also be the first of three designated "Tear It Up!" events held this season in conjunction with an NYU basketball doubleheader. Free food and t-shirts bearing the "Tear It Up!" logo will be provided to the student body. Last season, the student population were most of the vocal 2,463 fans on hand for a doubleheader against Washington University.

A live audio broadcast will be provided wnyu.org, while NYU will provide livestats for the contest.

The Violets (10-4, 1-2 UAA) are coming off their most impressive victory of the season, a 63-58 triumph at then-#24 Carnegie Mellon University on Sunday in which they overcame a 15-point, first-half deficit. Junior center John Mish scored a career-high 24 points in 22 minutes off the bench, while sophomore forward Keith Jensen added 15 points.

NYU is receiving two votes in the latest D3hoops.com rankings.

Ranked #4 by D3hoops.com, Washington (12-2, 3-0 UAA) enters on a 10-game winning streak. The Bears finished third in Division III in 2007 thanks to last year's UAA Player of the Year, Troy Ruths.

Washington will be NYU's fourth ranked opponent in five games, including solid showings by the Violets against #1 University of Rochester (70-54 loss on Jan. 18 at Rochester) and #2 Brandeis University (66-56 loss Jan. 12 at home).
