
Men's Basketball Rides Balanced Scoring Past Medaille, 81-60

Buoyed by four double-digit scorers, including sophomore forward Keith Jensen's team-high 14 points, the New York University men's basketball team earned its fifth straight victory with a 81-60 triumph over Medaille College in non-conference action Thursday night at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.
Sophomore forward Zachary Kuba tied his career high with 13 points, while senior center Michael Magee (11 points, 5 rebounds) and freshman forward Richie Polan (10 points, 6 rebounds) also hit double digits as NYU (6-2) established season highs for points and field-goal percentage (56.6%, 30-for-53). The Violets also enjoyed another successful game from long distance, canning 50.0% (10-for-20) of their three-point tries.
Bill Gersitz tallied 15 points, while James McNeil contributed 12 points and five steals for Medaille (6-4), which suffered its third straight setback.
Thanks to Kuba's 10 points, the Violets enjoyed their most productive first half of the season in taking a 44-31 lead into the locker room. After Medaille seized a 6-3 lead at the outset, NYU reeled off the next 12 points with Polan and senior guard Charlie Parker netting five apiece, to take a 15-6 advantage just 6:02 into the action.
In addition to scoring its most points in a first half, NYU shot a season first-half best 58.6% from the field (17-for-29) and led by as many as 17 (42-25, 1:06 before halftime) in the first 20 minutes.
NYU led by as many as 25, 75-50, with 6:36 remaining. The Violets owned considerable edges on points in the paint (34-14) and points off turnovers (32-12). In addition, NYU shot a perfect 11-for-11 at the foul line.
Medaille shot 44.2% (23-for-52) from the floor, including 35.0% (7-for-11) beyond the arc, and 58.3% (7-for-12) at the charity stripe.
Chris Moscato finished with nine points, all on three-pointers, and a game-high seven assists for the Mavericks.
NYU returns to action Saturday, Jan. 5, when it hosts Buffalo State College in a non-conference contest at 4 p.m. at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center.
