The New York University men's basketball team ended a two-game slide by defeating Medgar Evers College 70-58 on Saturday afternoon in Brooklyn, NY.

In a display of suffocating defense, the Violets (2-2) did not allow a field goal by the Cougars (1-8) until 14:56 remained in the first half.

By that point, NYU had already scored 16 points en route to a 43-21 halftime lead.

In that opening period, the Violets shot 51.7% (15-29), while holding the Cougars to only 23.5% (8-34).

It was much of the same in the second half, as NYU finished the game at 48.1% (25-52), while Medgar Evers settled for 32.9% (23-70).

Sophomore Keith Jensen tallied career highs of 22 points and nine rebounds.

Senior co-captain Michael Magee posted his first collegiate double-double with 16 points and and a team-best 11 rebounds.

Freshman Richie Polan added 10 points and six rebounds, while senior co-captain Charlie Parker contributed in all phases, notching nine points, five assists, three rebounds, and two steals.

"It was a great overall effort by our team," said NYU head coach Joe Nesci. "We played aggressively and with focus. Our halfcourt defense was very solid, as well."

Jahi Mays led Medgar Evers with 16 points and nine rebounds.

The Violets get right back to action tomorrow when they host Endicott College at 2pm at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

The annual Men's Basketball Alumni Game will proceed the varsity contest at 12pm.
