The men's 5mile and women's 5k course is run predominantly on a cinder path laid out specifically for cross-country runs, with several distinct variations and elevations:

First 1400 meters are run on the "flats" beginning at the north end of the parade grounds on flat grass and dirt.

Winding approach to the first mile mark leads into a 35 meter uphill approaching the bridge.

Loop of up and down hills passing the 2-mile mark.

200-meter gradual uphill follows, leading back to re-cross the bridge.

Sharp turn and steep decline to the flat parade grounds, past the start line, and finish to the 5000-meter course.

8000 meter course continues with additional loop including: flat parade grounds repeat, a 600 meter gradual up hill ("cemetery hill") beyond the 4 mile mark, a steep decline back, and 600m flat to finish.

Course can handle any length of spikes depending on weather related ground hardness and is well marked with directional flagging, course marshals and on-course split times.

INSPECTION: The course will be open for inspection from 12:00 noon until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, November 9. Course guides will be available at these times only for course inspection. Please note that the course layout and terrain does not allow for effective course inspection or practice after dusk. Please confirm course inspection request by contacting Operations Manager, Carl Villanueva at 212.998.2034.
