A former start at Smithtown High School, Schwarz entered NYU as one of the nation’s top men’s volleyball prospects, and certainly did not disappoint during his four seasons. A two-time Volleyball Magazine Division III All-Star (1998, 2000) and a four-time First Team Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) selection, Schwarz earned a spot on the EIVA All-Freshman Team (1997) and was named MVP of the American Volleyball Coaches (AVCA)/Molton Division III National Championship Tournament in 2000. Schwarz set career records in kills (1,766, now second all-time) and kills per game (4.99), while also establishing single-season standards for kills (549, 2000) and kills per game (5.68, 1997). Schwarz also set the Violets’ record for kills in a match (48, 1998). Academically, Schwarz captured the NYU President’s Varsity Club Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award and the Dan Quilty Scholar-Athlete Award in 1999. A three-time EIVA All-Academic Team member, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in finance and economics from NYU’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business in 2000. In addition to Schwarz, the trio of Jen Krolikowski (Women’s Basketball, ’98), Richard Maiocco (Men’s Track and Field, ’52) and Mike Muzio (Men’s Basketball/Baseball/ Coach/Administrator, ’58) will also be inducted into the Hall of Fame on May 6.
