NYU Welcomes Harold Bogrow into Hall of Fame
New York University alumnus, Harold Bogrow, was inducted into the NYU Athletics Hall of Fame on October 21, 2000. Bogrow, a 1941 graduate of NYU's School of Education who added a master's degree in 1964, currently resides in Dunwoody, Georgia. A captain of the Violets' varsity track and field squad in the early 1940's, Bogrow was honored as a member of the 1941 NCAA Coaches' All-America Track Team and also ran on two world record-breaking relay teams: the indoor one-mile relay (March 15, 1940) and the outdoor 2,400-yard relay (May 23, 1941). Bogrow helped NYU to win the first-ever Metropolitan Intercollegiate Indoor Championship by winning the 600-meter run. He also placed second in the 440-meter dash at the NCAA Championships in 1941 (46.7), beating out world record-holder Grover Klemmer in a photo-finish. His other accomplishments include winning the Seton Hall mile in 1941 and competing on the winning sprint medley relay team at the National AAU Indoor Championships at Madison Square Garden. Bogrow, along with fellow NYU alumni, Donna Layne (1994-basketball), Desmond Margetson (1948-tennis) and Michael Watt (1988-swimming), were inducted into New York University's Hall of Fame on October 21, 2000. The four athletes were honored for their collegiate and lifetime accomplishments, along with their commitment to NYU Athletics.
