Maiocco, who currently resides in Rocky Hill, Connecticut, rated among the top runners nationally and internationally during his tenure at NYU. Ranked as high as #6 in the world by Track and Field News in 1951, Maiocco was named NYU’s Most Outstanding Graduating Athlete and garnered a spot on the NCAA and AAU All-American Track and Field teams that year. Maiocco captured several titles during his outstanding career. However, one of his most noteworthy performances came when he placed third at the AAU National Championships. He was the first American finisher in that competition. Of his championship wins, the most noteworthy were when he won the Intercollegiate IC4A 440-yard titles in 1951 and 1952. A 1952 NYU graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, Maiocco also earned a master’s degree from NYU’s School of Education in 1962. A two-time U.S. Olympic trials finalist in the 400 meters (1952 and 1956), Maiocco is a native of Corona, NY. In addition to Maiocco, the trio of Jen Krolikowski (Women’s Basketball, ’98), Mike Muzio (Men’s Basketball/Baseball/Coach/Administrator, ’58), and Robert Schwarz (Men’s Volleyball, ’00) will also be inducted into the NYU Hall of Fame.
