(Newest on bottom)
The NYU Bobcat kicked off the school year to welcome
everyone back to campus! He appeared at the NYU Law welcoming
event held up at the Chelsea Pier 60 on Sunday, August 26, where
he mingled with the aspiring LLM and JD candidates as they returned
from an all-day scavenger hunt. The night was filled with food around
the world, plenty of dancing, and a fantastic view by the Hudson!
Follwoing that, the NYU Bobcat welcomed all the
freshmen at the kickoff to the Presidential Welcome
at Gould PLaza in front of the Stern School of Business on Monday,
August 27, where he greeted the class of 2011 with the NYU Pep Band,
Cheerleaders, and the Purple and White Dance Team. There was plenty
of showcasing by the spirit squads as they helped psyche the crowd
up for their first college year!
The fun wasn't over, since the Bobcat tagged along
with freshmen throughout Welcome Week and all the
fun activities, with the orientation celebration culminating with
the Beach Ball which was held on Friday, August
31, on the 4th and 10th floors of the Kimmel Center. With plenty
of live and DJ'ed music, dancing, and food, it was a great way to
cap off the beginning of a great school year!
After welcoming the freshmen, the NYU Bobcat turned
his sights to welcoming back the upperclassmen as they return Back
to the Square for their respective receptions, between
September 4 through 6, which were also held on the top floor of
the Kimmel Center. The Class of 2008, our respectable seniors, were
treated to a wine and cheese night for their reception as they kicked
off the final step toward graduation and the rest of their lives!
All the fun wasn't just centered around the Arch,
though! The Downtown Residence Halls Weekend featured
performances from many talented bands, vocal musicians, and some
spicy street Samba dancing by the Latin & Ballroom Dance Team
at the South Street Seaport on Saturday, September 8. The Bobcat
cheered on the residents as they participated in several mini-activities
for small awards and prizes, sponsored by the Downtown area of ResEd!
The CAS Student Council held its CASSC
Block Party later in the month, on Thursday, September
27, in the streets around campus, where the student council revved
up the year for the largest college of the campus with lots of food
and free stuff!
The Student Health Center sponsored a Wellness
Expo, held on Thursday, October 4, on Gould Plaza and along
West 4th St, where the NYU Bobcat roamed around with NYU students
as they browsed the various booths, from athletics to sexual health
to nutrition, and learned about smart ways to keep your body healthy
in every respect. There even was the Nintendo Wii available for
play as students (and the NYU Bobcat) competed in virtual games
like tennis or baseball!
With a month and a half under their belts, the
NYU freshmen had an opportunity to invite their parents to visit
them on an official Parents' Day, where all the
moms and dads were able to touch base with their kids and their
school an to see what has been going on around campus. The NYU Bobcat
welcomed the proud mothers and fathers as he mingled around the
receptions held in the Kimmel Center on Saturday, October 20.
Before he knew it, it was Halloween already! And
along with the cheerleaders and dance team, the NYU Bobcat lead
the Children's Halloween Day Parade around Washington
Square Park on the fantastic holiday where, with everyone in costume,
the Bobcat felt just at home... wearing his basketball jersey, that
is! With lots of music and games to entertain the children, the
NYU Bobcat appreciated plenty of hello's, high-five's, photos, and
hugs as he sent off the children to do their Trick-or-Treat'ing!
Just a few days later, on Friday, November 2, the
NYU Bobcat put on a special performance to kick off the NYU Latin
& Ballroom Dance Club's Nineteenth Annual Top Hat and
Tails Social and Dance Competition! He then proceeded to
get his groove on with the attendees as they munched on great food
and danced to great music. Plus, there were additional performances
by fantastic professional dancers, which wow'ed the crowd, and the
Bobcat! See the Bobcat dance!
At last, Basketball Season is
now underway, as the NYU Bobcat appeared at the Kick-off tournament
for the men and women, which started the week before Thanksgiving.
Along with the pep band, the cheerleaders, and the dance team, our
beloved mascot will inspire spirit along the sidelines to root on
our team! Go Violets! As the season progressed through the year,
the Bobcat cheered on the teams as they plowed through the competition.
At the Tear It Up! games in February, the Bobcat
did a routine with the Purple
and White Dance Team which got the crowd cheering during
the halftime show.
The Bobcat joined plenty of faculty and family
at the Chelsea Piers Ice Skating Party on Friday,
February 8. Throwing on a pair of skates, our mascot held hands
with plenty of kids as they glided on the frozen water at the Skyrink
on Pier 60.
At 100 Nights Before Commencement,
which actually was 87 nights before commencement, the Bobcat joined
seniors as they celebrated the final several weeks of their college
lives here at NYU. There was plenty of food, music, and goodies
to be had as students filtered through the tables containing information
about graduation and the senior legacies they would leave behind
with their individual schools and the university as a whole.
