JOINING NYU KENDO
Beginners can acquaint themselves with kendo by signing up for the recreational class offered at the Coles Sports Center. These are introductory sessions that take place once a week for the span of a full semester, amounting to a total of ten practices. Registration takes place at the beginning of each semester, and the cost is $50. Instructions to register can be found here. Please note that Coles is now implementing an online registration option!
Experienced players that own and use bogu, as well as advanced beginners, can join our more challenging team practices. These are more demanding and competitive in their nature, but also more fun and exciting, since their purpose is preparation for competition. However, the ultimate goal of kendo is self-improvement; players who are not interested in competing are still more than welcome to join.
For the 2007-2008 season, the team plans to attend tournaments at Cornell, Yale, and Harvard. The membership cost is $30 per semester. Travel expenses are covered for at least one tournament. Please download a membership form here and contact Yvette Yurubi if you wish to join.
