Welcome
Kendo [剣道], “the way of the sword,” is the traditional art of Japanese swordsmanship. The goal of kendo is to discipline one’s character through the application of the principles of the sword. Today, its practice takes the form of a competitive martial art. A physically and mentally challenging activity that combines strong cultural values with sporting elements, kendo brings together cardio activities, precision drills, speed exercises and meditation.
The New York University Kendo (NYUK) club was established in the fall semester of 2006, marking the first time NYU offered kendo classes in its recreation program. Following a huge success (recruitment of well over forty-five students, faculty and alumni), an official club sports team was created in the spring semester.
Feel free to navigate through our website to find out more information on the club as well as the sport itself.
