106 Student-Athletes Earn UAA Winter Sport All-Academic Accolades
02/13/08
One hundred and six New York University student-athletes were among the 533 2007-08 University Athletic Association (UAA) Winter Sport All-Academic honors.
Seventeen women's swimmers and divers to lead all teams for the Violets. Men's swimming and diving and men's fencing each placed 14 UAA Winter Sport All-Academic honorees, while women's fencing and wrestling each had 13. Both men's and women's indoor track and field recorded 12 award-winners.
Men's (6) and women's (5) basketball also had stellar showings, when you consider both squads have rosters laden with freshmen, who are not eligible for UAA Winter Sport All-Academic honors, as per Association rules.
Overall, 533 student-athletes were honored from the UAA's eight member insitutions. All-Academic recognition is given to student-athletes who have completed at least one full year of college study and carry a minimum of a 3.200 grade point average -- the same academic qualifying standard used by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for the nonimation of Academic All-America candidates in all sports.
