New York University sophomore forward Keith Jensen became the first Violet this season to earn the University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week award.
Jensen shared the accolade with Brandeis University's Joe Coppens after averaging 19.5 points on 51.9% (14-for-27) shooting, including 47.4% (9-for-19) marksmanship from beyond the arc, in leading the Violets to a 2-0 week as the team stretched its win streak to four games.
The 6-4, 220-pound forward from San Diego went 6-for-13 from the floor, including 4-for-8 from long range, and finished with 16 points in a 64-54 triumph over Case Western Reserve University on Feb. 8.
Just two days later, Jensen tallied a career-high 23 points, including five treys, and added four rebounds and three assists in a 76-69 victory over Emory University. In that win, he went 8-14 from the floor and 5-11 from three-point land as the Violets shot 80.0% (16-for-20) from the field and 8-10 from three-point range in the second half and a season-best 58.7% (27-for-46) from the field for the game and 50.0% (12-24) from three-point range.
Jensen is averaging a team-best 12.4 points a game for NYU (14-6, 5-4 UAA), which returns to action Friday, Feb. 15, when it hosts Association rival Carnegie Mellon University at 8 p.m. as part of a Tear It Up! doubleheader with the women's team.
