12/07/07

New York University junior forward Jessica McEntee captured the first PrestoSports/Metropolitan Basketball Writers' Association (MBWA) Player of the Week award on Monday after one of the finest performances in Violet women's basketball history.

In addition, the 5-11 native of Flushing, NY, earned her second University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week award on Monday and was also selected to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week on Friday.

The 2007 MBWA Division III Player of the Year, McEntee tallied a career-high and Jerome S. Coles Sports Center women's record 38 points while snaring 19 rebounds in NYU's 87-82 victory over SUNY New Paltz on Dec. 1. Most impressively, she went 20-for-21 at the charity stripe, establishing Violet and Coles Sports Center marks for free throws made.

In addition, McEntee's 19 rebounds were the second-best total in her career. The junior, named a 2007 All-American by three organizations (D3hoops.com, Kodak/Women's Basketball Coaches Association, Women's DIII News), recorded a first-half double-double (15 points, 10 rebounds, 9-for-10 free throws) against SUNY New Paltz.

McEntee was a three-time PrestoSports/MBWA Player of the Week during the 2006-07 season, and became the first-ever Division III player to capture the award in consecutive weeks.

McEntee is averaging 19.6 points and 12.8 rebounds for NYU (5-0), which is ranked #5 in the USA Today/ESPN Division III Poll and #6 by D3hoops.com.

The Violets return to action Tuesday, Dec. 4, when they travel to face SUNY Oswego at 7 p.m.
