Men's Soccer's Freeman-Roche, Thayer Earns d3kicks.com, UAA Honors
10/02/07
New York University junior defender Devin Freeman-Roche captured the University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week - Defense award, while both he and senior midfielder Jeritt Thayer were named to the d3kicks.com Team of the Week Tuesday.
Freeman-Roche helped extended two lengthy streaks as the Violets (8-1-1, 1-0 UAA) produced victories over Hunter College (3-0 on Sept. 26) and Case Western Reserve University (1-0 on Sept. 29). He set up the game-winning goal against Case Western with a brilliant lead pass, then cleared two shots off the backline late in the victory over the Spartans (#2 National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas, #6 d3kicks.com).
In addition, Freeman-Roche has been instrumental in NYU notching five straight shutouts and a shutout streak of 507:43 that is just 63:18 shy of the program mark of 571:01 established in 2005.
Thayer earned his second straight selection to the d3kicks.com Team of the Week after scoring in each of the Violets' victories last week. This included the game-winning tally at 17:06 against Case Western Reserve.
Thanks in part to Freeman-Roche and Thayer, the Violets have an eight-match undefeated streak (7-0-1) that is four games short of the school record of 12 (10-0-2) set in 2006.
