NYU Basketball Posts Doubleheader Win Over Mount Saint Vincent

Both New York University basketball teams improved their 2006-07 records to 10-0 with lopsided wins over the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

In the doubleheader opener, the men’s team won 86-47, while the women’s team posted a 75-33 victory in the nitecap.

Both games were decided in the opening minutes.

In the men’s game, senior Michael DeCorso scored the game's first basket. After Mount Saint Vincent’s Derek Charlton followed with a jumper to tie the score, the Violets embarked on an 18-5 run and never trailed by less than double digits the rest of the way.

In the women’s game, NYU forced Mount St. Vincent to miss 18 of its first 19 shots. The Violets forced 11 turnovers en route to taking a 25-5 lead with 5:30 remaining in the first half.

In both games, a pair of seniors led the way.

For the men, Michael DeCorso scored all of his team-high 14 points in the first 20 minutes as NYU streaked to a 47-19 halftime lead. For the women, Adrienne Rochetti helped the Violets score 10 early points off fast-break layups. She scored 12 of her team-high 14 points during the opening stanza.
