NYU to Induct Four New Members Into Athletics Hall of Fame
12/12/06
Four former student-athletes will be inducted into the New York University Athletics Hall of Fame: Jen Krolikowski (Women’s Basketball, ’98), Richard Maiocco (Men’s Track and Field, ’52), Mike Muzio (Men’s Basketball/Baseball/Coach/Administrator, ’58), and Robert Schwarz (Men’s Volleyball, ’00).
The quartet will be honored at the 2007 NYU Athletics Hall of Fame Induction and Varsity Athlete Reunion on May 6, 2007, at the Kimmel Center’s Rosenthal Pavilion. The ceremony will begin at 2 pm.
Tickets for the event are $30, which includes cocktails and hors d’oeurves. For further information about the event, please contact Violet Booster Club Coordinator Sam Albert at (212) 998-2029 or at sam.albert@nyu.edu.
Krolikowski will forever be remembered as one of the heroes of the Violets’ 1997 NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball National Championship Team. She scored the game-tying basket with 26 seconds left against the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire that propelled NYU to its first national title in women’s basketball. Krolikowski earned Kodak First Team All-America honors in 1997, was a First Team All-University Athletic Association (UAA) in each of her final three seasons (1995, 1996, 1997), and ranks second all-time with 1,802 career points.
Maiocco rated among the top runners nationally and internationally during his tenure at NYU, as he was ranked as high as #6 in the world by Track and Field News in 1951. He won the Intercollegiate IC4A 440-yard Championships in 1951 and 1952, and was a two-time U.S. Olympic trials finalist in 1952 and 1956.
Muzio was associated with NYU for 37 years (1954-1991) as a student-athlete, a coach, and an administrator. Among the most notable of his accomplishments was his leading the return of men’s basketball to NYU, coaching the Violets’ first NCAA Division III team from 1983-84 until 1988-89. He also served as deputy athletic director from 1982-91.
Schwarz entered NYU as one of the nation’s top men’s volleyball prospects, and certainly did not disappoint during his four seasons. He was named a two-time Volleyball Magazine Division III All-Star (1998, 2000), a four-time First Team Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) selection, earned a spot on the EIVA All-Freshman Team (1997), and was named MVP of the American Volleyball Coaches (AVCA)/Molton Division III National Championship Tournament (2000).
With the induction of the Class of 2007, the NYU Athletics Hall of Fame will include 176 members.
