The Freshman Year Away
As an NYU Liberal Studies freshman abroad, you will have the unique opportunity of completing your first-year degree requirements at one of NYU's exciting centers in Florence, London, or Paris.
Students take pre-approved courses that allow for them to stay on track with their degree requirements and graduate on time. Programs are uniquely designed for Liberal Studies Freshmen students and run for the full academic year.
Students will follow the same rigorous Liberal Arts curriculum as NYU’s Washington Square Campus and make a seamless transition to their sophomore year in New York.
Prospective and incoming students can educate themselves on making the decision to start their freshmen year away by visiting the Admissions website. They can also refer to the sites in the left-hand column for information about making the selection.
Admitted and current students should refer to their respective Freshmen Year Abroad blogs (links to the left) for more information on current deadlines and advising issues.
The Sophomore Year Away
Core Program students are encouraged to study away from New York during the sophomore year at one of NYU’s global campuses either in the fall, spring, or summer semesters. The first step in planning to study away is to start your research by following the advice below.
Step One: Look Far and Wide
Step Two: Meet with a Global Academic Advisor
Step Three: Familiarize Yourself with the Local Cultural Centers
Helpful Tips: Know Your Requirements, Deadlines, Apply Early, Submit Petition
The Junior Year and Beyond
Students will have an opportunity for overseas study at one of NYU’s global campuses even after transition from Liberal Studies. To plan for a junior experience away from Washington Square campus, students are encouraged to research early, consult with a Global Academic Advisor, and consider their strategy in course planning.
Gallatin-bound students should note that they will not be permitted to study away from the Washington Square campus in the first semester of their Junior Year and should plan appropriately.
