Liberal Studies Student Organizations
Student organizations play an important role in the Liberal studies program. They offer the opportunity for students to develop leadership skills while promoting collaboration between students, faculty, and administrators. Students use their energy, skill, and talent to develop programs that contribute significantly to the Liberal Studies community. All of the Liberal Studies student organizations were established by the initiatives of students in collaboration with faculty. There is always room for new student organizations to be established and activities or events to be proposed. If you wish to establish an organization or plan an event please contact ls.studentaffairs@nyu.edu.
Hereís How To Get Involved
To join a Liberal Studies organization you must be a Liberal Studies student. You may either, contact the advisor to the particular organization that you are interested in joining directly via email or telephone, or contact ls.studentaffairs@nyu.eduls.studentaffairs@nyu.edu.
Start Your Own Club
To start your own Liberal Studies club you must first determine if you would like to make your club available to Liberal Studies students only or the entire NYU student body. If you want your club will be exclusive to Liberal Studies students only you must obtain a faculty member who would be willing to serve as advisor to your club. You will also need to get students together who would be willing to join the club. The next step is a written proposal outlining why your club should become an official Liberal Studies club and describe the nature of the club including the educational component. All Liberal Studies clubs have an educational component. Some clubs also ask for funding for events or meetings throughout the semester. It would also be helpful to attach the list of Liberal Studies students interested in the club and the advisor. All of this should be included in the written proposal. Submit the proposal to ls.studentaffairs@nyu.edu and the Liberal Studies Student Affairs Office will review the proposal and notify you within 2 weeks. If you started a club and it has yet to be "official" you may also want to include when, where and how many times your club has met. Most often new clubs become official after the student group is formed and theyíve met regularly for meetings.
