The Freshmen Year Away
As an NYU Global Liberal Studies freshman abroad, you will have the unique opportunity of completing your first-year degree requirements at one of NYU's exciting centers in Florence, London, or Paris.
Students take pre-approved courses that allow for them to stay on track with their GLS degree requirements and graduate on time. Programs are uniquely designed for GLS Freshmen students and run for the full academic year.
Students will follow the same rigorous Liberal Arts curriculum as NYU’s Washington Square Campus and make a seamless transition to their sophomore year in New York.
Prospective and incoming students can educate themselves on making the decision to start their freshmen year away by visiting the Admissions website. They can also refer to the sites in the left-hand column for information about making the selection.
Admitted and current students should refer to their respective Freshmen Year Abroad blogs (links to the left) for more information on current deadlines and advising issues.
The Junior Year Global Study Experience
In the Junior Year, students will spend both fall and spring semester at one of NYU’s select GLS global campuses. GLS freshmen are matched with their Junior Year site in the spring semester of their freshman year. The deadline for indicating your preference is February 15 of the freshman year through an online form. Prior to this deadline, you will have various opportunities to meet with upperclassmen who have already studied away. But before that, start your research now by following the advice below.
Step One: Look Far and Wide
Step Two: Build on your Strengths
Step Three: Familiarize Yourself with the Local Cultural Centers
Helpful Tips: Know Your Requirements, Attend the Pre-Departure Meetings
Summer Study
GLS students may also explore summer study overseas at other global sites of interest. Study at any of these 25 locations may inform junior and senior year research, as well as future academic and professional plans.
