GRADUATE COMMISSION

New Program Proposal

Submission Guidelines

The Graduate Commission reviews all new master's and doctoral program proposals to ensure that each of NYU's schools with graduate components maintains comparable standards of work for the degrees and that there is no curricular overlap between or among the schools. The Commission is composed of one dean, one faculty member, and one student representative from each of schools with a graduate program.

Each new program proposal must pass four levels of review. 1. School level; 2. Graduate Commission (that reviews new program proposals biannually, once in December and once in April); 3. Office of Academic Program Review; 4. The New York State Education Department.

New program proposals that are submitted to the Commission must contain the following data, as outlined by the Office of Academic Program Review. Please note that the criteria for master's, doctoral, and licensure qualifying programs are different (see below) and that the items noted for exclusion by or optional for the Graduate Commission ARE REQUIRED to be submitted to the Office of Academic Program Review and the New York State Education Department.

Submission for the April 30th meeting should be electronic only, not paper.  One copy--i.e. one file--should be sent in Word format to Dale Rejtmar (dale.rejtmar@nyu.edu) by the submission deadline date (Friday April 6).  This one electronic document should include the follosing information on its first page:  a memo addressed to the Graduate Commission with the following:  (1) Degree and title of the new program, e.g. M.A. in Modern Architecture, (2) Name of the school submitting the proposal, (3) Name and contact information for the faculty member or administrator who is overseeing the proposal through the various stages of review.
