Jason Hwang is a composer and received a New Residencies grant from Meet the Composer¹s New Residencies program in 1998. He has been commissioned by the residency partnership (Asian Society, University Settlement House, Museum of Chinese in the Americas and Music From China) to write an opera based on his oral history research in Manhattan¹s Chinatown and residency activities with community residents. This opera¹s premiere is planned for fall of 2000.
