Mind's Desire
Photosculptures by Jaishri Abichandani
May 27 - August 26, 2002

This exhibition is the first complete showing of Jaishri Abichandani's mandala collage series, combining self-portraiture and goddess iconography. These large prints create a dialogue of personal and spiritual imagery that explore the Western stereotypes of Indian women and "the pain of never being seen as a whole spirit, but instead as a projection of everyone's desires and expectations."

Abichandani is a South Asian artist and writer who immigrated to New York in 1983 and later founded the South Asian Women's Creative Collective.
