NYU Celebrates its
175th Anniversary
Can you define Terquasquicentennial? For those who never studied Latin, it means 175th anniversary and thats just what NYU will be celebrating throughout 2006!
As NYU looks back on its dramatic historywhile always keeping an eye on the futureits fun to reminisce about some of the amazing things that have taken place here, not to mention some of the famous faces who once walked the halls. For instance, did you know:
Samuel Morse invented the first telegraph in the University Building in 1838.
The University claims a number of Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winners among its alumni, including Frank McCourt (Steinhardt 57, HON 00) and Mohamed ElBaradei (LAW 71, 74, HON 04).

New Perstare Society to be Inaugurated at
Pre-Commencement Breakfast
Perstareto persevere, to continue, to go on. This has been part of the Universitys motto since its early years, and embodies the can-do spirit of the NYU community. This May, in honor of NYUs 175th Anniversary, the University will inaugurate its new Perstare Society at the annual Pre-Commencement Breakfast.

Alumni looking to jump start their careers now have a new resource. Thanks to a generous gift from the Wasserman Foundation, NYUs former Office of Career Services relocated and reopened in January 2006 as the Wasserman Center for Career Development.
