Groundbreaking Clinical Cancer Center Opens at NYU Medical Center

The NYU Clinical Cancer Center at 160 East 34th Street

Last year, NYU Medical Center opened the doors to a revolutionary new 13-floor outpatient clinical cancer center, offering patients a variety of treatment options and comprehensive care services in one single location. As the central clinical setting of the NCI-designated NYU Cancer Institute, the NYU Clinical Cancer Center, located at 160 East 34th Street, provides cancer care services ranging from prevention, screening, and genetic counseling to diagnosis, treatment, and psychosocial support.

“This new Clinical Cancer Center, as well as a number of other research and clinical investments we’re making, is going to ensure that we continue to provide our patients with the most up-to-date treatments available anywhere,” said Robert M. Glickman, dean of NYU School of Medicine and CEO of NYU Hospitals Center. “With the proper investments now and in the future, we hope to one day eliminate this devastating disease altogether.”

Within the 85,000-square-foot building, 340 employees staff several multidisciplinary clinical care centers, with a focus on the care of patients with specific cancers. Each specialty center will draw on the resources of medical oncologists, hematologists, surgical oncologists, nurses, nurse practitioners, social workers, radiation oncologists, radiologists, nutritionists, and patient-education specialists.

Bringing together renowned cancer specialists under one roof, the Center will strengthen the multidisciplinary approach to cancer care and link cutting-edge biomedical advances with the compassionate, individual, and humanistic care for which NYU Medical Center has long been renowned. Having oncology professionals headquartered in the Center will enhance research, making it easier to collect and analyze data from patients and clinical trials. Programs training the healthcare professionals of the future will have a home there as well

Some of the unique features of the $100 million NYU Clinical Cancer Center include a program in women’s cancers, meeting the medical and non-medical needs of women with breast and gynecological cancers; a wellness boutique, offering products and services for women and men who have had breast surgery or are undergoing chemotherapy; and a cancer education and resource center, featuring a cancer information specialist to help patients and families find relevant information. Access to public transportation and flat rate curbside valet parking facilitates patient visits to the center. Additional information about the center is available at the NYU Cancer Institute’s Web site www.nyuci.org.
