Jeffrey Hirsch – Federal Emergency Management

Helping to tackle the logistical challenges faced by rescuers at Ground Zero was Jeffrey Hirsch (WAG ’01), who was called into service to support the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s urban search and rescue teams at the scene. Hirsch (at right in photo) helped to set up and monitor the process of getting debris by tugboat and barge from the World Trade Center to Staten Island’s Fresh Kills landfill for examination.

“The FEMA teams stood down after a month on-site,” said Hirsch, a FEMA-trained firefighter. “The City had pretty much everything under control; the New York City police and fire departments are second to none in rescue operations.”
