Friends of Africa House
At New York University Africa House, we believe that scholarship makes
an important difference in African affairs, especially when it engages
leaders who design and implement policy. We use our location in New York
to build a community of people, like you, who take Africa and African
issues seriously. We also envision Africa House as a place where Africans
and people from all walks of life in the United States can come together
to exchange ideas and to better understand each other. Our aim is to raise
the general awareness here that the lives, aspirations and talents of Africans – though
different in various cultural ways (just like the American people) – are
fundamentally similar to Americans.
At the moment our programs are carried out at various venues provided by NYU. Our hope is that Africa House one day soon will have its own walls so that it can stand alongside the other international houses for which NYU is well known. As a part of a private, non-profit institution like NYU, we must appeal to our generous donors for much-needed support, not only to continue our numerous events and programs on campus, but to allow us to grow and make Africa House a truly influential institution. As such, we are pleased to launch our Friends of Africa House campaign.
The
Friends of Africa House campaign recognizes those donors who make a tax-deductible
gift of at least $1,000 to Africa House. Donors are listed on the
Africa House website and are invited to all events. As a Friends of Africa
House, feedback and ideas for the future of Africa House will be highly
sought after and regarded.
We are pleased to take this opportunity to designate Judith
and Michael Thoyer to the Africa House Honor Roll for 2007. They have been very generous supporters of our program since its inception. Each year the Honor Roll will recognize donors who contribute $25,000 or more.
