Somalia, The Horn of Africa and Food Security

His Excellency Jerry Rawlings, African Union High Representative for Somalia and the African Union Face of Humanitarian Efforts in the Horn of Africa, discussed about the larger efforts being done to end the humanitarian crisis in Somalia and the Horn of Africa and what still needs to be done particularly on food security in the region. The Public Lecture by the Former President was part of the larger 2nd Annual CTED Conference, "Enhancing Economic Development through Technology: Focus on Africa and other Developing Regions." This conference, organized in collaboration with the UAE Ministry of Foreign Trade and under the patronage of Her Excellency Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, sought to highlight the possibilities that innovative technology can bring to advance emerging regions around the world.

The Africa and the India Ocean Conference 2010

Held on March 14-16, 2010 in Abu Dhabi, UAE, the second in a three-year series, this interdisciplinary conference highlighted and examined the major aspects of the relationships among different Indian Ocean nations as well as the relationships of Indian Ocean nations with other African nations and the Arab Gulf countries. Discussions covered the history, politics and economics of these relationships. Sessions were devoted to trade, land purchase, food security, oil and commodity markets, and technology for development, asset stripping and capital flight and flows in the region. Continue »

The Rawlings at NYU

Former President of Ghana
His Excellency, the Former President of Ghana, Flt. Lt Jerry John Rawlings (Ret.) and his wife, the Former First Lady of Ghana, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings were the guest speakers at two Africa House events held recently at NYU. Public Lecture: Jacob Zuma

Jacob Zuma, the President of South Africa participated in a public lecture where he spoke about South Africa, the role of the government, as well as the role of government in general on the African continent. The event was then followed by a dinner reception for VIP guests at Kimmel in honor of Jacob Zuma.
