University-Wide Resources
ACADEMIC RESOURCE CENTER
The Academic Resource Center (ARC) is a "one-stop shop" for academic support as you navigate your academic experience at NYU. It offers tutoring, cross-school advising, and is a resource when you don’t know where to go with academic navigation questions. Cross-school advising is available to help students navigate beyond the offerings of their own schools, when exploring courses, areas of study, minors, graduate degrees, etc. "Rather than college advising, which students can get at any of the schools, the Center will have a broader advising approach," said Senior Vice Provost for Undergraduate Academic Affairs Matthew Santirocco. "Say a Stern student wants to take piano lessons. Someone at Stern might not know what they’re looking for, but others at the Center will. Think of it as an academic concierge."
The University Learning Center (ULC) is integral to the ARC, offering free individual tutoring, academic coaching, skills workshops, group review sessions, and a small library of resources. Additional resources at the ARC include an Argo Tea Café, computers and ITS printer, and a variety of study spaces. Academic advising and support for the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program and Higher Education Opportunity Program is also located in the Academic Resource Center.
To navigate the ARC or to find your way to other academic resources around campus, stop by our SMART Bar – a reception and information desk located by the main entrance. The SMART Bar is staffed by a team of friendly and knowledgeable students (SMART Aides) who are full of information on Student Mentoring, Academic Resources, Tutoring. They can sign you up for a walk-in advising appointment with one of our cross-school advisors, direct you to an academic coach or a study skills workshop in the University Learning Center, or provide you with a tutoring schedule. As NYU students, SMART Aides fully understand the complexities of navigating the University from a student perspective.
