Internal Transfers

Important Information for Internal Transfer Candidates

You should use this application if you currently attend New York University and you wish to be considered for transfer to another school or college at NYU. If you wish to change programs within your current school or college please contact your school advising office directly for information on interdepartmental transfers. You may submit only one application for internal transfer at a time. To be eligible for internal transfer you must be in at least your second semester of consecutive full-time study at your current NYU school or college. Students who have previously applied for an internal transfer and been denied admission must wait one full academic year before becoming eligible to re-apply for an internal transfer to any NYU school or college. Students who have already completed an internal transfer must wait one full academic year before becoming eligible to re-apply for another internal transfer.

There is no application fee for internal transfers. You may submit only one application for internal transfer at a time.  Applications submitted after the internal transfer application deadline will be considered only on a space-available basis.

To apply, you must log into NYU Albert. Under the "Admissions" heading please click the link to the "Application Center" and follow the online instructions.

Note: Former NYU students who wish to re-enter the University in a different school or college than the one they attended should use this application only if they did not attend another college or university since leaving NYU. Students who attended another college or university since leaving NYU must file the regular Application for Admission to Undergraduate Study. With the exception of Tisch School of the Arts students, former students who wish to re-enter the same school, college or division they once attended and who did not attend another college or university since attending NYU should complete the Application for Readmission and Special Student Admission. Former Tisch School of the Arts students seeking readmission to Tisch should file the Tisch Readmission Application, available through their department.

This does not include credit awarded by examination or earned at a previous school. If you do not meet this requirement you will not be considered for admission. Deadlines

Priority application deadlines have been established to enable as many internal transfers as possible to pre-register in their new school or college.  Applications submitted after the internal transfer application deadline will be considered only on a space available basis.  It is your responsibility to submit an application for programs with enrollment ceilings in a timely fashion. Please note, the Tisch School of the Arts and the Stern School of Business do not consider applicants for the spring semester.

Financial Aid

If you receive financial aid, please note that, with few exceptions, your current standard financial aid package is automatically transferred to your new school or college. Please contact the Office of Financial Aid at 212/998-4444 with any questions once you are admitted to a new undergraduate college.

Notification

Notification for internal transfer applicants is on a rolling basis following the application deadline. In most cases, applicants can anticipate receiving a decision before the end of the academic semester in which they apply. Please see the “Registration” section below to learn more about planning for an internal transfer while you wait for our official response.

Registration

Until receiving an official acceptance letter from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, internal transfer applicants should proceed with registering at their current school or college for the following semester. If you are accepted for internal transfer after you have pre-registered in your current NYU program, you must change your registration to your new school. You should contact your new school or college to secure a new registration date as well as more detailed instructions about the registration process. Please note that while the admissions office will make every attempt to provide the admissions decision in a timely fashion, it may not be possible to provide the decision in time to complete early registration in your new school or college.
