Cultural Capital: Media and Arts in New York City

July 8 - August 17, 2013

There is no better place to study media and the arts than in New York, the world's cultural capital. NYU's summer Cultural Capital program will deepen your understanding of how media, culture, economics, and the arts intersect, and it will give you a head start in building your network in the arts and media industries for your future career.

Program Details

The program is built around a 4-credit core course, Cultural Capital: Media and the Arts in NYC (MCC-UE 1152), which explores the multi-faceted nature of New York City as a cultural and economic hub for media and the arts.

Throughout the program, in-class instruction will be complemented by exclusive access to high-level guest presentations and a variety of site visits, including:

  • Times Square (Media Spectacle and Live Entertainment)
  • Museum of Modern Art (Art and the Mid-Century Making of a Global City)
  • Bloomberg (The Nexus of Media and Financial Services)
  • City Hall (The MediaNYC 2020 Plan)
  • Silicon Alley (Finding "New Media"  in Old New York)
  • Time-Warner Center (Making Content)
  • Madison Avenue (The Mad Men (and Women) of Manhattan)

In addition to their core course, students may choose a second credit-bearing course from the special range of offerings below. Search here for any of them and read their course descriptions.
