Pre-College

Summer break is an excellent time for high school students to make new friends and experience New York City as a real college student. A number of programs are offered for students who would like to experience NYU.

With NYU Precollege, students entering their junior or senior year of high school can apply to take college-level courses for credit and experience life as an NYU student. Credit-bearing courses are available in more than 30 subjects to fit every interest and academic need.

Eligibility

High school sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply. Applicants must be in good academic and disciplinary standing as demonstrated in their academic transcript and application.

Current high school seniors who will graduate prior to the start of NYU Precollege should apply to Session 2 of NYU Summer in NYC.

Current high school freshmen may consider one of the Steinhardt Art, Music, and Theater Summer Programs, depending on whether or not they meet the admissions criteria for their program of choice.

Classes begin on July 8, 2013 and end on August 17, 2013.


Additional Programs for High School Students

The residential program offers high school sophomores and juniors (rising juniors and seniors) professional training in acting, dramatic writing, filmmaking, musical theatre, photography and imaging, and recorded music. Students earn six college credits and live in New York City. Application deadline: February 4, 2013. Learn more.

NYU Steinhardt offers a variety of residential noncredit summer workshops designed for high school students interested in Art, Music, and Theater to expand their skills and liberate their imaginations. Students stay in NYU housing with 24-hour security and spend their days in intensive, individualized classes. Learn more.

The School of Continuing and Professional Studies offers a one-week intensive program of study for current high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. Students can choose from programs in creative writing, digital filmmaking, digital journalism, finance, motion comics and illustration, photography, real estate and global issues. Learn more.

The Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences offers a six-week high-level summer internship for motivated and accomplished high school girls. The Courant Institute Girls’ Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Summer Program allows students to work on a project alongside researchers in mathematical and physical sciences.
