Register for classes and beyond ...

Now that you are a January Term student, there are a few remaining steps that you must complete to register for classes and prepare for your first day.

Activate your Net ID

Go to http://start.nyu.edu and follow the instructions. Your NetID is your login and username for your NYU e-mail account.

Log in to NYUHome

Go to http://home.nyu.edu and enter your NetID and password. Visit the various tabs to familiarize yourself with the layout and information available. Confirm that you have access to your e-mail account.

Log in to Albert
Albert (NYU’s student information system) displays your schedule, classroom location, and final grades. From the NYUHome Welcome screen, click on the tab labeled "Academics." On the upper left side of the Academics page, click the box labeled "Albert Login." You will now be at the Albert Welcome screen.

Check your NYU E-mail
Once you activate your NYUHome account you can check your NYU e-mail by logging in to NYUHome and clicking the "E-mail" link, or navigating directly to email.nyu.edu, and using your NYUHome credentials. All NYU correspondence from this point on will be sent to your NYU e-mail address.

Enroll in Classes

Through the Student Center in Albert, click on the "Enroll" link on the left-hand side of the page and select classes to enter into your shopping cart. Be sure to use the search function on the right hand side of the course guide in order to narrow your search by subject, session, or by open/closed status. Once your selected course is in your shopping cart, confirm by clicking "Finish Enrolling."

If you are blocked from registering for a course for any reason, please submit the January Term Enrollment Request Form with the Academic Resource Center. You must include your full name and NYU ID Number (your N number) in all communications.

Review Your Schedule

In the student center, select "My Class Schedule" to find out the location, dates and times for the courses you selected.

January Term students have the option to live on campus. Once you are admitted, you will receive information on how to apply for housing via email. Students who choose to live on campus in a traditional residence hall must sign up for a meal plan with 10 or more meals per week.

To learn more about housing and meal plans, visit the Housing and Resources web page.

Once you are registered for your January Term courses, you will be required to pay your bill. Notification regarding your tuition bill will be sent to your NYU e-mail address beginning in mid-October.

You can access and pay your bill via Albert 24 hours a day.

  • Log in to your NYUHome account.
  • Open Albert.
  • Enter your student center.
  • Click on ‘View Bursar Account’ (bottom right hand corner under ‘Finances’).
  • Follow the instructions to make a payment.

Our preferred method of payment is by electronic check. There is no additional fee for this safe and secure service. If you are unable to pay using an electronic check, please select one of our other methods of payment.

If you would like to add a parent to your eSuite account, follow the directions found here. Account activity can be viewed by signing into eSuite and clicking on 'View Activity' under the 'My Account' tab.

If you have any questions, please contact the Office of the Bursar at bursar.studentaccounts@nyu.edu or 212-998-2806. You may also visit their website.

Once you have completed January courses at NYU, you may view your grades via Albert by going to your Student Center and selecting "Transcript-Unofficial" from the drop down menu. Please allow 2-3 weeks for grades to be posted.

If you plan to request a transcript (see below), please be sure to wait until your grades have posted.

Academic transcripts are not automatically sent at the end of January Term. If you would like an academic transcript, you must make a request via Albert or the University Registrar's website.

Please wait until all grades have posted to your Albert account before requesting a transcript.

Transcripts can be requested at any time. If you have a valid netID, you can request an official transcript by signing into Albert and going to your Student Center. From the drop down menu, click on "Transcript-Official."

If you do not have a valid NYU netID, visit the Official Transcripts webpage for specific instructions.

Before you get to class:

The NYUCard is a multipurpose identification card issued to all registered students. For security purposes, all students are required to have their NYUCard in their possession at all times.

Simply submit a photo online and, once approved by the NYUCard Center, you can pick up your card in person. The NYUCard Center is on the corner of Lafayette Street and E. 4th Street. You must bring a valid photo ID with you to get your card. Photos submitted and approved by 3:00 p.m. can be picked up the following business day. More information about submitting your NYUCard photo and information is available online.

Students are asked to turn in their NYU ID Card at the end of their term of study (it will be deactivated at that time). If a student returns for a future term without having turned in their ID Card they will be assessed a $15 replacement fee.

To help you get the most out of your January Term experience at NYU, we highly encourage you to view the January Term 2014 Online Orientation. In this self-paced interactive video, learn about academic advising, housing, dining, and all the resources available to you as an NYU visiting student. We’ll also cover important procedures, dates and deadlines, and highlight the items you’ll need to complete prior to the start of class.

All international students must attend a mandatory check-in workshop upon starting their classes at NYU. Please refer to the Office of Global Services webpage for more information.
