Oftentimes the fall and spring semesters can be overly hectic for students – a full-time course load, student club responsibilities, work, internship commitments, and social obligations. This busy time forces students to focus mainly on their academic progress which doesn’t always allow freedom to explore a new interest or take advantage of the many cultural resources that originally drew them to New York City. January Term provides an array of courses enabling students to earn academic credit (major, minor, or elective) in courses that are in high–demand, to accelerate degree completion and to concentrate on personal interests.
The following students are eligible to apply for January Term:
Visiting students should work with their home institution to ensure that the courses they participate in at NYU will transfer back to the school where they will receive their degree.
Students in the categories below should not apply as a visiting student for January Term:
Students who are currently matriculated in an NYU degree program are able to earn credits toward their degree through NYU January Term. NYU students must register on Albert; please do not submit the January Term Visit Student Application. For information about University deadlines, check the academic calendar.
Students who wish to matriculate at New York University and receive a degree from NYU should apply as a freshman, graduate, or transfer student. They should not apply for visiting student status.
Students who are interested in earning graduate credit for January Term courses must apply through the Admissions office of the school that offers the course of interest. Click on the links below to contact the school of your choice.
*Please note that graduate-level Stern courses (-GB) are not open to visiting students. For admissions information, please visit the Stern Admissions page.
