Oftentimes the fall and spring semesters can be overly hectic for students – a full-time course load, student club responsibilities, work, internship commitments, and social obligations. This busy time forces students to focus mainly on their academic progress which doesn’t always allow freedom to explore a new interest or take advantage of the many cultural resources that originally drew them to New York City. January Term provides an array of courses enabling students to earn academic credit (major, minor, or elective) in courses that are in high–demand, to accelerate degree completion and to concentrate on personal interests.
Are you eligible to apply for January Term?
The following students are eligible to apply for January Term:
- High school graduates who have earned a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Current undergraduates at a college/university who would like to study away for a semester.
- Post-graduate students who already have their Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university and wish to take undergraduate courses.
- Returning visiting students may re-apply for up to three consecutive semesters. International students requiring an I-20, please refer to the note from NYU's Office of Global Services.
Visiting students should work with their home institution to ensure that the courses they participate in at NYU will transfer back to the school where they will receive their degree.
