Boren Scholarships

Campus Deadline: December 1
Final Deadline: early February

Undergraduate scholarships for summer, semester or year-long study abroad. Awards range from $2,500 to $20,000.

Candidates must:

  • be a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior
  • be a U.S. citizen
  • apply to a study abroad program with a language study component in a Boren-supported country/language, and plan to continue language study after your return
  • be a college student during the Boren-funded abroad program, i.e. you cannot receive your bachelor's degree beforehand
  • have academic and career goals which resonate with Boren's emphasis on U.S. national security and/or international affairs

NB: All Boren Scholarship applicants must be in contact with the Boren Scholarship NYU Campus Representative well in advance of February so that the Campus Representative can both provide advice and have the time to produce a formal evaluation of all applications prior to the final deadline.



Boren Fellowships

Final Deadline: January 31

This program supports language study, research, and academic internships abroad. Fellowships are available at the PhD and Master’s levels, and include a commitment to work in the federal government for a minimum of one year following graduation.

NYU's campus representative for the Boren Fellowships does not reside in the Office of National Scholarships but rather in the Graduate School of Arts and Science.
