NYU Internal Deadline: August 15, 2017
Final Deadline: September 27, 2017
Senior at time of application (or within four years of your bachelor's degree)
|Duration||Three years of funding toward graduate education at Stanford|
"The Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program is designed to build a multidisciplinary community of Stanford graduate students dedicated to finding creative solutions to the world's greatest challenges."
We’ve had a chance to look through the application, and we can see that it quite different from a number of other fellowship applications, mainly in the breadth of the questions. There is not one personal statement, but two essays that have specific prompts. (“Essay 1: Connect the dots. How have influences in your life shaped you? Essay 2: Describe three different paths for your career and life. To prepare for them, what do you need to learn at Stanford as a Knight-Hennessy Scholar?”) There are other unusual sections: “Please tell us eight improbable facts about you.” All told, the application represents a serious investment of time and energy.
In the recommendation letters section, you’ll see that if you are currently enrolled or very recently graduated, you can request that one of your letters of recommendation for the Knight Hennessy be an institutional letter of endorsement. This is basically a letter written by our office. This institutional endorsement is optional, and would take the place of one letter of recommendation. As the letter explicitly calls for someone who knows you well, unless you’ve had extensive dealings with our office we will assume you will prefer to have another person write that letter of recommendation.
Those of you would like a letter of endorsement from our office MUST let us know you want this by the 15th of August, and provide a 90% completed copy of their application (that is, only minor copy-editing and reviewing left to do) by the 1st of September. Please let us know at email@example.com with the tagline “Knight Hennessy.”
