The DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) provides a number of differect scholarships for students. Below are a couple of the more popular programs that NYU students consider:

  1. The Study Scholarship is only offered for a full master's degree program at a German university or for study at a German university as part of a postgraduate or Master's degree program completed in the home country. Research Grants are awarded to candidates who have completed a Master's degree/Diploma, or in exceptional cases a Bachelor's degree. NYU's internal deadline is October 11th for both of these applications.
  2. The University Summer Course Grant enables students to attend courses mainly on German language, culture, politics and economics. The deadline is December 1. Applicants must have attained at least sophomore standing and they must demonstrate German language proficiency. The application deadline is December 1, 2018.

Submission Instructions for Study and Research

Applicants must register with the Online Application Portal prior to completing an application. Once registered, applicants will log onto the Application Portal where they download an electronic application form and complete it. Applicants should have all the additional necessary documents ready when they upload their completed application form. The Online Application Portal allows applicants to check the status of their application. Once an application has been accepted, a notification and a summary of the application in PDF format will be sent to the portal. Print the application summary as soon as it is received.

Reference writers must fill out the reference form available on the DAAD portal.  They must then provide the applicant with a signed, paper copy of the letter in a sealed envelope. This sealed envelope must be submitted by the student to NYU GSAS as a hard copy on or before the internal application deadline.

Please note: GSAS administers the application process for the Study Scholarship (open to students in their final year of undergraduate study or currently in a Master's program)
and the Research Grant (open to students at both the Master's and Doctoral level).

The NYU internal deadline for submission is Thursday, October 11, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. Applicants must bring one copy of their application summary (all uploaded application materials) along with the original letter of recommendation in sealed a envelope to the GSAS Office of Academic and Student Affairs at 6 Washington Square North, 2nd Floor.
