Academics

The core of New York University is the academic enterprise. The best students and faculty are drawn to the University by the allure of being part of a compelling intellectual and creative enterprise — a community of scholars characterized by collaboration, innovation, and incandescent teaching. NYU students get the experience of attending a Global Network University, anchored in New York City but with nodes throughout the world. Learning opportunities present themselves both in and out of the classroom, befitting an institution that is and always has been “in and of the city”. And now our students and faculty are global citizens, exposed to culture, students, faculties and research opportunities throughout the world.

More than 15 schools and colleges, 11 global academic centers, an NYU Abu Dhabi portal campus, and an NYU Shanghai portal campus opening in fall 2013 comprise the New York University academic community. Strengthened through its arts and science core, a guiding principle of the University’s academic enterprise is interconnectedness. NYU encourages dialogue between departments and schools, operating under the thinking that barriers between disciplines must not be barriers to learning. This collaboration continues to develop and uphold rigorous norms and standards while taking new pathways to connect traditional fields in non-traditional ways.

NYU’s stimulating academic climate is fostered by its diversity. The student body comes from all corners of the globe, every economic echelon and pursues distinct intellectual experiences. Programs of study are diverse, but share a common expectation for high achievement and the goal of engaging world challenges through a diversity of disciplines. NYU draws even greater vigor from even greater diversity. Faculty members are world-famous scholars and researchers, winners of Nobel, Craaford and Pulitzer Prizes; MacArthur, Guggenheim and Fulbright Fellowships; and Oscar, Emmy and Tony Awards. In its academic enterprise, the entire University community pursues the academics of the future, securing New York University’s place as the future of idea capital.
