Collaborate with NYU

NYU's Office of Industrial Liaison (OIL) is the place where NYU inventors go to disclose an invention and file a patent application to ensure their valuable ideas are protected. It is also the place to go to license NYU-developed technologies and intellectual property. The Office of Industrial Liaison is the link for commercial partners, and a contact point where mutually beneficial relationships are built, often resulting in NYU inventions in a wide range of disciplines.

The office has helped nearly two-thirds of NYU patents connect with companies for licensing purposes, a success rate that puts NYU at the top of U.S. universities in technology licensing income, providing funds for further research and education. Recently, the pace of invention by NYU faculty has doubled annually, while license agreements have tripled. NYU’s Applied Research Support Fund (ARSF) provides gap funding for commercially promising life science research; to date, its support has generated $25 million.

At the Polytechnic Institute, at the Washington Square campus and at the University’s medical research institutions along First Avenue, NYU is actively building upon this track record of success in creating products that make an impact on society. NYU technologies are behind dozens of biomedical products including drugs to treat cancers, heart disease, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, diabetic complications and malaria. Other successful products include HIV diagnostics, MRI technology, orthopedic and dental implants, stent technology and monitoring devices, and more are undergoing clinical trials. Agricultural technologies to improve crop yields for food and biofuels have been commercially developed, along with numerous electronics and software technologies including magnetoresistive random-access memory (MRAM), touch screen technologies and robotic control systems, among others.

We encourage companies, venture investors, and entrepreneurs to contact us to explore how we can work together, develop new technologies and create new ventures to benefit the public and promote economic development. To learn more about some of the technologies we are interested in commercializing, please visit our Emerging Technologies page.  In addition, the NYU Office of Industrial Liaison maintains a more complete list  of NYU technologies available for licensing and commercialization.

If you have any questions, or for further information, please contact the Office of Industrial Liaison.
