Program Overview

10 week program for graduating NYU student teams

to accelerate their ventures forward

 
Participating teams receive:
 - Skill-building bootcamp in lean startup principles
 - Workshops with startup experts
 - Mentorship by local VCs & entrepreneurs
 - Co-working space at Varick Street incubator
 - $7,500 stipend (no equity)
 
Important Dates:
 - Program Dates: June 2 - August 6
 - NYU/Yale Summer Accelerator Pitch Off (open to public): July 17, 6:45 - 9pm
 - Lessons Learned Presentations (mentors and teams): August 6, 9am-12pm
 - Venture Showcase (open to public): August 6, 1-3pm

NYU Summer Launchpad 2014 Class

We received over 60 applications from across nine NYU schools and colleges. The applicant pool spanned software, web, mobile, hardware and services across a diverse array of sectors including consumer, enterprise, healthcare and education, among others. From this pool, we selected the ten amazing teams to participate in the inaugural Launchpad program. The teams and their NYU student founders are listed below:

  • Brooklinen: An e-commerce brand offering high quality sheets at accessible prices. David Fortune, Stern ‘14; Richard Fulop, Stern ‘14
  • Democrateyes: Personalized makeup and skin care recommendations for those who don’t fit the mold. Rebecca Hillegas, Engineering '14; Jason Schapiro, Engineering '13
  • HireCanvas: Improves campus recruiting for students, recruiters, and universities by managing the data developed at events. Scott Holand, Stern ‘14 
  • Limbr Activewear: Functional fitness apparel designed to resist body movement to help conveniently tone muscle and burn calories. Franklin Yao, Medicine ‘17 
  • Peekbite: A mobile application that allows restaurant customers to visually savor their food, order remotely, and pay seamlessly.

  • Sensory Percussion: The next generation e-drum using state-of-the-art machine learning for expressive control of electronic sounds on stage. Tlacael Esparza, Steinhardt ‘14 
  • Smart Vision Labs: A mobile-based technology that allows users to check their vision by taking a picture of their eyes using a smartphone. Yaopeng Zhou, Stern ‘14; Marc Albanese, Stern ‘08
  • Somaware: Eyes-free, ears-free, hands-free navigation using a neck band that provides directional prompts through vibration. Mike Karlesky, Engineering ‘15; Xiaochang Li, Steinhardt ‘16
  • SPARKBox Toys: An online toy rental business offering the best learning toys for children ages 0-4. Yasmine Kooros, GSAS ‘14
