ARC Brings One-Stop Shopping to Washington Place

Academic advisors? Check. Peer tutoring? Check. Chamomile tea and scones? Check.

It used to be that you’d have to walk block to block for different academic services at NYU, but the trip was seriously shortened in 2010. Housed in the former NYU Bookstore, the multi-story Academic Resource Center, or ARC, now offers one-stop shopping for student needs—from cross-school advising to practical skills training.

A Smart Bar staffed by students greets visitors, and offers direction for navigating the cavernous space. The goal is to connect each person to the right service, so they will have every opportunity to excel in the classroom. The center also boasts a satellite office for services such as financial aid and career counseling.

Beyond the one-on-one help, students can also just stop to use the many computers, printers, and study spaces, or for a snack at Argo Tea Café.
