La Maison Française is the public face of NYU’s Center for French Civilization and Culture, and has welcomed thousands of literary, artistic, and political luminaries since its founding in 1957.
On Wednesday evening, March 5, La Maison Française of New York University will hold a Gala Benefit to raise funds for its public program of free lectures, readings, conferences, symposia, art exhibits, concerts, and special events. Since its founding in 1957, it has evolved into one of the most active centers of French-American cultural and intellectual exchange, and has welcomed thousands of literary, artistic, and political luminaries.
Honorees Hélène and Michel David-Weill will be recognized for their contributions to Franco-American friendship, cooperation, and exchange in a broad range of fields, and will each receive the Medal of Honor of the Center for French Civilization and Culture.
The evening will feature Paris Notes, a musical presentation by NEW YORK FESTIVAL OF SONG, with Steven Blier, Virginie Verrez, and Philippe Pierce. New York Festival of Song has been delighting audiences and dazzling critics for a quarter-century, with repertoire ranging from art song and opera, to Broadway and the blues. Founded by pianists Steven Blier and Michael Barrett, it is hailed for its thematic programming, which has “reinvented the song recital” according to The New Yorker.
The Benefit co-chairs are Françoise Gilot, Mary Sharp Cronson, Elisabeth Cros, and Guy Sorman. Patrons of the event include H.E. François Delattre, Ambassador of France to the United States; H.E. Ambassador Gérard Araud, Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations; the Honorable Bertrand Lortholary, Consul General of France in New York; Antonin Baudry, the Cultural Counselor of the French Embassy; and John Sexton, President of New York University.
