ROCK YOUR MIND!—a concert to benefit science programming—will feature New York University scientists, along with internationally acclaimed magician Mark Mitton, on Thurs., March 13, 8 p.m. at the Bowery Electric (327 Bowery [between E. 2nd and E. 3rd Sts.]).

The Amydaloids, who include author of The Emotional Brain and Synaptic Self, Professor Joseph LeDoux of the NYU Center for Neural Science, and NYU Biology Professor Tyler Volk, will perform songs about the mind. They will be joined by Space Clamps, who feature Sara Steele, who studies auditory perception at NYU, and Erik Nylen, a pre-doctoral fellow at the NYU Center for Neural Science, as well as Super Small, which includes Daniela Schiller, an assistant professor of psychiatry at Mount Sinai Medical Center.

Magician Mark Mitton, a magic and special effects consultant, has made Will Smith appear in the middle of Times Square, directed a freak-show opening circus for Aerosmith, and taught sleight-of-hand and created special effects for Tony Shalhoub, Stanley Tucci, John Travolta, and John Lithgow. Ticket proceeds and contributions fund science programs like “The Feeling Brain,” an upcoming PBS series that gathers diverse scientists and experts in various fields to explore and translate the emotion sciences, plus high level consciousness science curriculum for university networks, among other projects produced by Shift. “The Feeling Brain” is developed with cognitive neuroscientist Bernard Baars, in association with the Society for Mind Brain Sciences.
