Statement by NYU and NYU-Poly on NYS Regents’ Approval of Merger

NYU and NYU-Poly issued the following statement following the NYS Regents' approval of their merger.

NYU and NYU-Poly are gratified that the New York State Board of Regents today approved the agreement of consolidation that will lead to the merger of our two institutions and enable NYU-Poly on Jan. 1, 2014, to become NYU’s newest school: the NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering.

Today’s Regents’ approval is an important milestone as we move forward toward consolidating our two great universities. We now look forward to the next steps in this process, including approval by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, our education accreditation body, and official recognition by the U.S. Department of Education.

NYU and NYU-Poly initiated this historic merger because we believed it would be of great benefit to the faculty and students at both our institutions. In short, it will restore the engineering discipline to NYU, connect a major research university to NYU-Poly, and create many exciting new cross-disciplinary opportunities for learning and research.

We are grateful for the cooperation and support the merger has received from the NYS Department of Education, the NYS Regents, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, and the U.S. Department of Education.
