Veterans have played a rich role at NYU, from the returning soldiers who studied here on the GI Bill after World War II, to some of its most notable alumni, including director Oliver Stone, New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, writers Frank McCourt and Howard Zinn, and U.S. Senator Jacob Javits.

In the spring of 2013, NYU’s student body included 168 undergraduate and 100 graduate student veterans as well as 19 veterans taking non-credit courses.
