Tisch Student Wins Prestigious Princess Grace Award

Sathya Sridharan, a student in the Graduate Acting Program (MFA, ’14) at the NYU Tisch School of the Arts, was named one of 24 students across the country to receive a prestigious Princess Grace Award, recognizing artists who “while still considered emerging talent, already show exceptional promise in their areas of expertise.” Given annually by the Princess Grace Foundation-USA (PGF-USA), the awards provide more than $1 million to artists in theater, dance performance, choreography and film.

The awards continue the legacy of Princess Grace (Kelly) of Monaco, who helped emerging artists pursue their artistic goals during her lifetime. Sridharan, who was one of seven honorees in the theater category, will officially receive his award at the 31st annual Princess Grace Awards Gala, held in the presence of HSH The Princess of Monaco, on October 30, 2013 at Cipriani on 42nd Street.

The Princess Grace Foundation-USA was established after the death of Princess Grace in 1982 to bestow scholarships, apprenticeships, and fellowships to assist artists at the start of their careers. The foundation has cultivated a diverse group of over 600 artists to date who continue to advance the spectrum of performing arts with innovative, cutting-edge, and vibrant theater, dance, choreography, film, playwriting and design. Since the Foundation’s inception, more than 800 Awards have been given to recipients, totaling more than $10 million. Foundation’s support assists with theater and dance studies, supports artistic fees at non-profit theater and dance companies and helps underwrite thesis film projects.
