Member Hospitals Are Committed to Improving Care of Older Adult Patients

NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders) announces it has added the 500th member to its roster of hospitals that have implemented the NICHE program to improve care of older adult patients.

A reception is planned Nov. 14, 2013 from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at The Atlantic Philanthropies, 75 Varick Street, 17th Floor, New York, New York to celebrate the achievement.  The event will include hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and a celebratory champagne toast. Media are invited to attend.

The NICHE hospital member designation — which starts with the NICHE Leadership Training Program (LTP) — signals a resolve to provide patient-centered care for older adults. Through participation NICHE hospitals are able to offer evidence-based, interdisciplinary approaches that promote better outcomes, positive experiences, and improved care for older adults. This leads to greater satisfaction rates for patients, their families and staff.

“This is an important milestone for NICHE and our member hospitals’ efforts to meet one of the most critical challenges of our times: quality care of older adults,” says Barbara Bricoli, MPA, NICHE managing director. “Through 2030, 10,000 baby boomers will turn 65 every day. Medicare spends $555 billion now; that number is projected to almost double by 2020. Reaching 500 members is a testament to everyone in our organization who has shared their passion for taking care to the next level for this rapidly growing and most vulnerable population. We are now 500 and growing stronger everyday.”
