The New York University Creative Writing Program’s Spring 2013 Reading Series concludes in May with events featuring Sam Lipsyte (May 2), Yusef Komunyakaa (May 3), and Mark Doty (May 9). All events are held in the program’s Greenwich Village home, the Lillian Vernon Creative Writers House, located at 58 W. 10th Street (between 5th and 6th Aves.), unless otherwise noted.

Sam Lipsyte’s story collection, “The Fun Parts,” is new from Farrar, Straus and Giroux.

PEN/NYU Minifestival: The Literary Mews
The NYU Creative Writing Program hosts a series of events as part of a day-long minifestival sponsored by PEN World Voices Festival of International Literature. Events are free and open to the public. The entire program can be found here.

10 a.m.-11:30 a.m.—Literary Translation Workshop led by James Byrne

Noon-1 p.m.—Photo Exhibit Tour: “Writers” by Nancy Crampton
The Lillian Vernon Creative Writers House is home to a permanent installation of black-and-white portraits of renowned writers taken by Nancy Crampton. Participants will get an insider’s view into Crampton’s encounters with authors including W.H. Auden, James Baldwin, Anne Sexton, Lucille Clifton, and Gwendolyn Brooks. PEN invites readers to browse tables where literary magazines and independent presses proffer the work of up-and-coming writers, wander the streets and cross borders as the doors to NYU’s International Houses are opened, or stop to take in busking musicians or a puppet show.

National Book Award–winner Mark Doty’s forthcoming publications are a poetry collection “Deep Lane” and a nonfiction book “What Is the Grass,” both from W. W. Norton. NYU Creative Writing Program alumnus Angelo Nikolopoulos reads from his debut, “Obscenely Yours” (Alice James Books, 2013), winner of the Kinereth Gensler Award.
