New York University’s Department of Photography & Imaging has announced that the photographers Ed Kashi and Donald Weber, both members of VII (Seven) Photo Agency, will discuss how they are using new technologies to push the boundaries of traditional visual representation and to expand the reach of their storytelling to new audiences. The lecture, entitled Canon U.S.A. Visual Impact: The Documentary Experiment, will be moderated by Whitney Johnson, director of photography for The New Yorker and adjunct professor in the Department of Photography & Imaging at the Tisch School of the Arts. The lecture is co-sponsored by the Department of Photography & Imaging, NYU’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute, Canon U.S.A., and VII Photo Agency.
VII Photo Agency photographers are visiting top journalism programs at universities across the United States this fall to discuss media literacy and how new technologies are changing the use of still and video photography within the social documentary field. The photographers have adopted the latest technologies to create dynamic imagery and film in the areas of fashion, music, lifestyle, philanthropic and foundation storytelling, narrative, and documentary.
A Canon representative will be available before and after the event to answer questions regarding the launch of the new EOS 1D X camera. The Photography & Imaging Department will also host a master class for NYU photojournalism students Nov. 7 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. with Kashi and Weber. Interested students must RSVP to: dpiRSVP@gmail.com.
The lecture will take place on Nov. 9, 2012 from 7 to 9 p.m. at 20 Cooper Square, 7th Floor Commons. The event is free and open to the public with advance reservation. To RSVP, send an email with “Visual Impact” in the subject line to: dpiRSVP@gmail.com.
VII Photo Agency was created in 2001 by seven of the world’s leading photojournalists and by 2005 VII was listed in third position in American Photo’s “100 Most Important People in Photography”.
