The Amygdaloids, a band of New York University scientists, launches its latest EP, “All in Our Minds,” with a performance at the Bowery Electric (327 Bowery at 2nd Street) on Friday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. The band is led by NYU neuroscientist Joseph LeDoux, director of NYU’s Emotional Brain Institute. One of the group’s objectives is to increase awareness of mental health issues through promotion of research via music. It has previously released “Heavy Mental” and “Theory of My Mind.” LeDoux’s published works include The Emotional Brain: The Mysterious Underpinnings of Emotional Life and Synaptic Self: How Our Brains Become Who We Are.

“All in Our Minds” includes five tracks: “My Mind's Eye,” “Map of Your Mind,” “I Got a Mind to Tell You,” “Reminds Me of You,” and “Out of Sight, Out of Mind”. The EP was produced by Jeff Peretz, an instructor at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, and recorded at Head Gear, located in Williamsburg Brooklyn, and the James L. Dolan Music Recording Studio at NYU’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development.

The Jan. 27 performance will include LeDoux (guitar and vocals) and Peretz (lead guitar, bass), along with the following members of the Amygdaloids: Amanda Thorope (bass and vocals); former NYU post-doctoral fellow Daniela Schiller (drums), an assistant professor at Mount Sinai School of Medicine; and Tamas Madarasz (cello), a graduate student in NYU’s Center for Neural Science.
