The Gallery Space at NYU Wagner to Present Earth Day Exhibition

March 22, 2012

The Gallery Space at NYU Wagner will mark International Earth Day with one artist’s visual manifesto on global environmental degradation. An opening reception for the exhibit, which is entitled “I will show you fear in a handful of dust,” will be held at The Gallery Space (295 Lafayette Street, at Houston Street, 2nd Floor, New York, N.Y.) on Wednesday, April 4, from 6-to-8-p.m.. Those wishing to attend the opening must submit an RSVP available at www.wagner.nyu.edu/events.

The exhibit is free and open to the public and will run through May 31.

These works by artist Erick Sánchez underscore the perils of man-originated ecological disturbances and the growing urgency for intensified environmental conversation efforts.

With this series, Sánchez gives shape to an increasingly fragile world consumed by globalization, industrialization, global warming, and other consequences of human behavior and the concomitant natural disasters. The four semi-figurative landscapes resulting from these explorations are deliberately cautionary in tone, and executed with assertive brush stroking and inventive medium combinations.

The exhibit is presented by the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service in partnership with the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development, and Wagner Environmental Policy & Action (WEPA). Promotional sponsorship has been provided by NYU Sustainability/Earth Week and the Student Network Exploring Arts & Culture (SNEAC).

The exhibit is curated by NYU Steinhardt faculty member Ann Chwatsky and NYU Wagne staff member Frankie Crescioni-Santoni.
